Probably the most widely accepted current use
for Closed Circuit Television is in security
surveillance systems and deterrent applications
such as Banks & ATM machines, shops,
car parks, burglary detection, petrol stations,
staff safety and so on.
There are many applications for CCTV, particularly
with internet access and alarm functions now
available.
Here are some applications, but I'm sure you
will find many more.
Work Productivity
Work place is usually better when the boss is
around! Management can now be several places
at once and be in total control of their business.
Is the service level to your expectations? Do
your customers get the attention they should?
Are some of your staff putting in that bit extra,
while others do less? Are staff arriving on
time and taking breaks when they should? Are
there traffic flow problems in the office or
showroom?
(It's quite amusing to watch the office on fast
forward) Put some cameras up and see your productivity
increase!
What are your staff doing when you aren't around?
(do you really know what they're up to - even
when you are around?) Do you have the time to
be constantly monitoring your staff? And of
course you can watch your premises via the internet!
Also useful for staff training, providing positive
feedback or disciplinary action where applicable.
Retail Shops
An important application for CCTV, as most industry
experts estimate retail shrinkage (staff &
'customers') to be in the region of 2-3.5 %
of turnover, which could transfer to 20% or
more of profits! Can a retailer afford not to
have a CCTV system?. Although this is considered
to be the main benefit to retail use, have a
look around this page to see some other major
benefits.
Staff Theft & Fraud
Some studies have indicated that as high as
60% of shrinkage is related to employee theft
or under ringing. No one wants to catch a staff
member stealing, so the deterrent effect has
the desired result of putting temptation out
of the minds of most people - the ones that
persevere will get caught!
Car Parks
Security and deterrent against vandalism, property
theft and vehicle theft. Helps keep your guests,
customers and staff vehicles and property secure.
Record all vehicle number plates in and out
(recorded by time) 24 hours a day. Deters opportunist
thieves from entering your car park to do the
"walk around" into your office, (laptops
& handbags mainly), and provide the added
benefit of additional personal safety - and
much cheaper than a 24 hour security guard!

Reception Areas
Reception areas by their nature are high traffic
areas, with known and unknown persons entering,
loitering and exiting this area continuously.
CCTV not only deters abusive or illegal activity,
it can record people arriving. The Alarm function
of CAMX can also alert you to an unattended
reception area with an audible alarm, and trigger
video recording automatically. CCTV is also
useful for surveillance in waiting areas etc
where the receptionist cannot normally see.
Office Security
Ensure only authorised personnel and guests
have access to restricted areas. Again an audible
alarm and auto recording work well here. Useful
deterrent for casual theft and if theft takes
place a record of the event is on hand. If you
have car park cameras, you may even catch the
number plate!
Bars & Clubs
What did really happen during that incident?
- Know you know for sure! Great for the gaming
areas and cigarette machines also. Keep an eye
on the cash register too.
Cash Rooms
A camera in the cash room and one outside the
door will certainly be a large deterrent for
robbery, and if a monitor is connected inside
the cash room, the staff inside can view who
is outside the door. The camera inside the cash
room allows live monitoring of cash handling
and recording for viewing at a later date.
Hotels, Motels, Holiday
& Caravan Parks and Holiday Homes
As security is an important factor when considering
a holiday ,attracting additional owner-occupiers
as a result of installing CCTV will often pay
for the system, while providing you an additional
level of overall security. Also Hotels etc have
a need for security for their staff and clients,
as well as offering a deterrent for casual theft/vandalism
etc, and staff pilfering & theft, as well
as non payers attempting to exit. Remember,
guests are more likely to return if they feel
safe.

Swimming Pools
Pool safety can be enhanced with the cameras
ability to constantly monitor, record &
alarm areas that may not be directly viewed.
Trade Shows
You can set up a CAMX system anywhere with a
power socket!
1 power point, a couple of lengths of coax cable,
2 cameras and a monitor - you're in action.
Observe pedestrian flows around your stand -
What was of interest, when were the busy times,
did your staff provide the level of service
you expect?...and so on. A deterrent also for
the light fingered!
Schools, Daycare Centres
& Kindergartens
Many obvious benefits here, but how about being
able to watch your children and their care givers
at day care via the internet while you are at
work!
Zoos, Pet Shops &
Breeders
Keep an eye on that poorly animal, or on the
front door while you are out back. Video any
births and hatchings, fast forward video to
observe habits, habitat or convalescence. Infrared
cameras can be used for nocturnal animals.
People Flow &
Traffic Monitoring
The fast forward function enables you to view
several hours of video (with multiple camera
views) in minutes.
Ideal to monitor traffic flows, bottlenecks,
behaviour observation and so on.

Production Control
CCTV can be invaluable in monitoring factory
control by placing cameras where normal viewing
may be dangerous or obscured. Breakdowns can
be detected early to avoid major damage, and
video can be viewed to help establish the cause
and remedy.
Work Safety Practices
Many hours of recording can be reviewed to ensure
that safety standards are maintained, especially
with dangerous goods & chemicals, and heavy
machinery operation.
Management Standards
Video can be copied and sent to head office
to verify policy is being met, service standards
are maintained, and safety standards are upheld.
Businesses can review records together with
personnel to review and reward good behavior
or offer assistance as part of a training program.
Other Benefits of
Digital CCTV:
Can help to reduce public liability insurance;
protect your premises and minimise lost productivity
due to theft or property damage; confirmation
of criminal activity; provide court admissible
video evidence; visually confirm activation
of fire or intruder; cameras can be used to
monitor external and internal doors where 24
hour access is available - conventional alarms
are often not practical in these situations.
